InterMundial launches travel insurance that protects travelers against emergencies like the Zika virus
Multiasistencia Plus Élite allows travelers to cancel their trip for any reason in high-risk situations.
InterMundial, a broker specializing in travel insurance, is launching Multiasistencia Plus Élite, a travel assistance policy that includes, among many other benefits, cancellation for any reason. This coverage can be used in the event of an epidemic like the current Zika virus, which, according to World Health Organization (WHO) data, already affects 33 countries.
Generally, travel insurance policies exclude epidemics from their coverage. Following situations like those experienced years ago with Ebola, InterMundial has worked to design a product that meets travelers' needs by offering the most comprehensive coverage, while sparing travel agencies the conflicts that arise when clients want to cancel their trips. Multiasistencia Plus Élite is one of the new products added in 2016 to Pack Plus, InterMundial's travel insurance catalog for travel agencies.
“Tourism is becoming increasingly global, and therefore, travel insurance must be as well,” explains Carlos Uceda, Product Analyst Director at InterMundial. “We need to take into account all the variables that can occur in different tourist destinations and, based on that, design products that help the traveler and can provide support in high-risk situations.”
The WHO statement regarding the Zika virus affirms that there is no need to restrict travel to affected areas or territories. For its part, InterMundial is available to travelers and travel agencies to provide relevant information and advice, in accordance with the recommendations of the WHO and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
