Over five hundred charity gifts from Fundación InterMundial 'lost' across Spain
Madrid, December 4, 2019.
- One euro will be donated to the NGOs 'Viaja, disfruta y ayuda', 'Ningún Niño Sin Sonrisa', and 'Infancia Solidaria' for every person who finds one of the 'lost' gifts and shares it on social media.
- The total donation will increase based on the number of participants, who can use an interactive map provided by the travel insurance specialist to geolocate the gifts in real time.
- The 'Charity Gift' campaign is supported by partner travel agencies throughout Spain and features the participation of company volunteers.
If pedestrians in Madrid happen to run into some impromptu Santa's helpers over the next few days, it's for a good cause: they are volunteers from Fundación InterMundial asking for help to find some of the hundreds of 'lost' gifts. This is the core of a campaign by the travel insurance specialist that, through its Foundation, will be launched in multiple cities across Spain this Christmas. The initiative 'Charity Gift'is a call to action aimed at raising funds for the NGOs 'Viaja, disfruta y ayuda', 'Ningún Niño Sin Sonrisa' and 'Infancia Solidaria'.
The main challenge is to involve as many people as possible, both tourism professionals and the general public, since every time someone finds one of the hundreds of packages 'lost' throughout Spain one euro will be donated to the aforementioned organizations.
In addition to Madrid, these charity gifts misplaced by Santa can be found, between December 10 and 23, in major cities like Barcelona, A Coruña, Seville, Malaga, or Valencia, as well as in smaller towns like Utrera, Cáceres, Badajoz, Burgos, Ávila, Elche, Talavera de la Reina… and over a hundred other locations.
Furthermore, the Fundación InterMundial will activate a interactive map as an essential tool to easily find any of the packages lost throughout the country. Its real-time updates will provide precise geolocation coordinates.
Additionally, a large group of Grupo InterMundial employees will set aside their regular duties to become Santa's helpers. This battalion of InterMundial 'elves,' easily identifiable by their signature blue and white Christmas hats, will be out on the streets asking for help. Their goal is to explain the initiative and invite everyone who wants to contribute to join this charitable challenge, which aims to find gifts that hold value far beyond the material.
How to join the campaign
What do you need to do once you have checked the interactive map and located the 'lost' gift nearest to you? Simply head to the exact spot where it is located, which could be either outside or inside a participating establishment, such as a travel agency located anywhere in Spain. More than a hundred of them joined the initiative just hours after the InterMundial Foundation announced the campaign to its network of partners, and they have continued to do so over the last few days, with more still able to join before next Tuesday, December 10th. Once the package is discovered, you just need to take a photo with your phone, share it on social media (Twitter or Instagram) with the hashtag #fundacionintermundial and tag InterMundial.
There will also be an alternative way to contribute to the ‘Solidarity Gift’ campaign, especially for those unable to take an active part in the gift hunt. This will be through the fundraising platform: https://www.gofundme.com/f/regalo-solidario-fundacion-intermundial, where you can donate any amount you wish as a ‘zero row’ contribution during the campaign, which runs from December 10th to December 23rd.
Participation Prize
Joining the ‘Solidarity Gift’ campaign also comes with a reward. Once the campaign ends on December 23rd, two Polaroid instant cameras will be raffled off among everyone who found and shared a photo of one of the solidarity gifts on their social media. In parallel, the InterMundial Foundation has launched an internal raffle for its own employees to determine who will be responsible for delivering the funds raised to each of the three social organizations—two based in Madrid and one in Malaga. The solidarity checks will be presented to the Ningún Niño Sin Sonrisa Association, Infancia Solidaria, and ‘Viaja, disfruta y ayuda’ on December 24th.
The main purpose of the InterMundial Foundation through this campaign is to collaborate with small, resource-strapped non-profit entities, mostly run by volunteers, that find it difficult to secure funding for their projects. ‘Solidarity Gift’ aims to involve both the public and InterMundial Group employees to maximize the funds raised for these organizations.
‘Viaja, disfruta y ayuda’: Universal access to water filters
The Malaga-based project ‘Viaja, disfruta y ayuda’ aims to provide a response for anyone interested in traveling with a social purpose. This platform seeks to give visibility to social projects that lack the means to promote themselves. Currently, ‘Viaja, disfruta y ayuda’ is focused on the initiative ‘The Social Water: The solution fits in your hand,’ which aims to combat the water crisis by providing access to purification filters in various parts of the world through ‘water banks’—points of sale for filters at reduced prices, managed by local groups.
‘Ningún niño sin sonrisa’: Especially at Christmas
The Madrid-based organization ‘Ningún Niño Sin Sonrisa’ is a non-profit association founded in 2009 to keep the magic of Christmas alive for children, regardless of their family situation. It has since grown and expanded its activities throughout the year. Its projects are always campaigns or activities by and for children, primarily the collection of toys and school supplies. It is currently run entirely by volunteers.
‘Infancia Solidaria’: Children helping other children
The case of Infancia Solidaria is unique: it promotes solidarity among more fortunate children. Although adults make the financial contributions, Infancia Solidaria personalizes the help by focusing on a child in their own circle (children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc.), and it is these children who receive letters from the organization. In this way, the children open the letters and learn for themselves the stories of children who were less fortunate at birth and what the NGO is doing to help them.
The NGO focuses on helping children living in developing countries who need to undergo surgery that cannot be performed in their home country. The goal is for them to come to Spain for surgery, with authorization from the relevant health authorities or in private hospitals. Since 2006, this organization has helped more than two hundred children improve their health.
