InterMundial Group and PANGEA The Travel Store join forces on the new General Data Protection Regulation
InterMundial Group hosted an educational talk on the new European data protection regulations. The conference, which took place at the world's largest travel store, PANGEA The Travel Store in Madrid, was aimed specifically at the travel blogger community with the goal of providing them with the information and mechanisms necessary to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Titled “Is your blog ready for the new GDPR?”, the talk, which brought together a large group of bloggers, focused on two central themes with legal and technology specialists who provided an approach to the new regulatory environment from various perspectives. On one hand, Inmaculada Aller, a lawyer specializing in commercial law and data protection at the specialized firm Tourism&Law, analyzed the main changes introduced by the new regulations, emphasizing the relationship that blog owners must develop with the Data Protection Agency. In this regard, Aller explained how, under the new regulations, users gain new rights regarding access to their personal data, as well as its correction and deletion, leaving their privacy much better protected. As the lawyer explained, “from now on, tacit consent for sharing personal data disappears, so if this consent from the contacts in our databases cannot be proven, it will be necessary to request it again.”
For his part, Francisco Menéndez, Head of Security and Compliance at Micronet Spain, explained in the second part how the GDPR impacts their respective blogs, introducing bloggers to the technology available for adapting to the new regulations.
Since May 25, with the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), companies and users have been in a transition period where many have yet to adapt their processes to ensure compliance with European regulations. This new legislation on personal data processing particularly affects professional bloggers, as they must adapt both their databases and any forms that capture reader data if they wish to avoid corresponding penalties.
The event, which was very well received by the travel blogger community, was broadcast live via YouTube, where users were able to interact and send their own questions to the speakers.
