InterMundial Foundation presents the Responsible Tourism Awards
InterMundial Foundation has presented the Responsible Tourism Award today, organized in partnership with the International Tourism Trade Fair, the World Tourism Organization, and the Hotel Technology Institute. The four winners of this second edition were selected from over 70 entries received from 7 countries.
During the awards ceremony, held as part of FITUR, Manuel López, trustee of the InterMundial Foundation, highlighted the need to promote responsible practices that enable long-term sustainable tourism, as, in his own words, "no one wants a world without tourism."
Winners of the 2nd Responsible Tourism Awards
The 2nd Responsible Tourism Award in the Hospitality category was awarded to Paradores de Turismo de España. Specifically, the jury recognized the Parador de El Saler project for its commitment to sustainability through the implementation of the Natursenda project. This route, which showcases the local flora and fauna, features a 100% accessible itinerary for people with reduced mobility.
Joan Molas, president of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation, presented this award to Óscar López, president of Paradores, and Francisco Contreras, director of the Parador de El Saler.
The 2nd Responsible Tourism Award in the Transport, Products, and Tourism Services category was received by Costa Cruises for its 4GOODFOOD initiative, through which the company has committed to reducing food waste generated on its ships by 50%.
Francisco Javier del Nogal, trustee of the InterMundial Foundation, presented the award to Rafael Fernández-Álava, Director of Marketing and Communication at Costa Cruises.
The 2nd Responsible Tourism Award in the Destinations category went to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia. The award recognizes the "Tourism and Peace" initiative, a program through which Colombia promotes destinations most affected by armed conflict, highlighting their biodiversity and providing municipalities with the resources necessary for their development. In the words of the jury, "Tourism and Peace" is an example of how tourism can be understood as a tool to integrate communities and foster employment through destination development.
Colombia's Deputy Minister of Tourism, Juan Pablo Franky Marín, accepted the award from Jaime Cabal, Deputy Secretary-General of the UNWTO.
In the Blogosphere category, the winner was La maleta de Carla. This travel blog raises reader awareness about the environmental impact of poor waste management. The goal of La maleta de Carla is to share alternatives to avoid single-use plastics while traveling and to turn the hashtag #ViajarSinPlástico into a reality.
Ana Larrañaga, Director of FITUR, presented this award to the blog's author, Carla Llamas.
