At FITUR, InterMundial reveals the keys to one of the top destinations for 2020: Japan
Madrid, January 23, 2020.
The 40th anniversary of FITUR, the essential event for the Spanish tourism sector and one of the most established internationally, will host the tourism trends that will define 2020. With Japan expected to become one of the most sought-after destinations this year, InterMundial is hosting an event exclusively dedicated to the Japanese nation alongside the authors of the specialized blog ‘Japonismo’ and the support of the Japan National Tourism Organization in Madrid.
Thus, Japan will take center stage on Saturday the 25th starting at 4:00 PM at the InterMundial booth. The authors of the 'Japonismo' blog, whose expertise has made them a leading source of information on Japan for Spanish speakers, with over 200,000 social media followers, will give a presentation offering essential tips and details for anyone interested in visiting this destination.
Laura Tomás and Luis Rodríguez, founders of Japonismo, have been sharing useful content since 2006 about a destination that the Japanese government expects to welcome nearly 40 million foreign tourists in 2020, marking a growth of over 100% in the last three years. The Tokyo Olympic Games, taking place next summer, will help make Japan one of the most sought-after destinations this year.
For its part, InterMundial, as the event organizer, is focusing on the importance of travel insurance in this country, drawing on its more than 25 years of experience insuring travelers who choose Asia, and Japan in particular, as their destination. One of the key travel habits worth noting among those visiting Japan is the advance planning involved.
Tips for planning your trip to Japan
According to InterMundial data, travel insurance is purchased at least one month in advance in 62% of cases, with 28% of policies purchased the week before travel and only 6% just one day before. This behavior differs significantly from that seen for other destinations, where the vast majority of bookings are made with very little lead time.
Trips to Japan have an average duration of 14 to 16 days and the most commonbookings are for two travelers, although a high 34% of bookings are for solo travelers. InterMundial recommends that insurance policies be taken out by all members of the traveling party to ensure coverage that extends to companions, such as trip cancellation or repatriation.
Japan is a very safe country, but healthcare is very expensive. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself warns that "it is highly recommended to have travel medical insurance with the widest possible coverage when visiting Japan, as healthcare for non-residents can be extremely expensive." The average cost of assistance ranges from 100 to 700 euros, and a simple doctor's visit is around 50 euros, while an emergency hospital transfer and surgery can reach 40,000 euros. The average price of insurance per traveler is 80 euros, according to InterMundial.
