Travelers from Catalonia, Madrid, and Biscay are the most likely to purchase insurance, according to InterMundial
Travelers from Catalonia, Madrid, and Biscay traveling with their families are the most likely to purchase insurance, according to data from the insurer InterMundial, which states that illnesses and accidents are among the most frequent incidents.
Spanish families typically purchase their travel insurance an average of ten days in advance. The person responsible for purchasing the family vacation policy is on average 40 years old.
The type of family that insures their trips most frequently is a three-person household. Another notable finding is that families who use insurance tend to be repeat customers, meaning they usually have coverage for all the trips they take throughout the year.
Cancellation causes top the list of most valued coverages among travelers who purchase travel insurance, at 32%, followed by medical assistance guarantees—which are especially valued when traveling with children—at 21%.
Reimbursement for unused vacation time and the handling of incidents by insurance companies are both at 14%.
8% of respondents value protection against the loss of services as the most important coverage; 7% value baggage coverage; and finally, 3% of travelers consider coverage for accidents and civil liability to be essential.
ILLNESSES, MOSTLY MINOR.
On the other hand, the majority of travelers who contact assistance centers do so for health-related issues. Specifically, 64% do so due to illness and 34% due to accidents.
In the case of illnesses, 30% of incidents are due to minor cases of fever, flu, pain, and general malaise. The second most frequent type of ailment during trips, at 16%, is related to gastrointestinal problems. These are mostly cases of gastroenteritis, vomiting, and other stomach issues.
At 11%, muscle and bone ailments make up the third most common group of illnesses during a trip, with lower back pain and injury-related ailments being the most prominent.
Following this group in importance are urinary problems, such as infections (7%); dermatological issues, such as abscesses, rashes, or dermatitis (6%); and ear conditions (5%).
More serious illnesses are, in general, the least frequent. This category includes, among others, cardiovascular and gynecological problems, including complications during pregnancy.
Falls are the most frequent accidents during trips, accounting for 70% of cases. At a much lower percentage, 8%, injuries sustained during sports activities make up the second most common type of travel accident, followed by contusions and trauma (5%) and fractures, sprains, and dislocations (4.5%).
