Cancellations and lost luggage are the most common travel issues during Easter week
Easter has become one of the most popular times for Spaniards to travel. According to data from InterMundial, a broker specializing in travel insurance, the main travel issues during this period will be trip cancellations (41%), followed by luggage-related problems (23%) and issues linked to the loss of services (21%).
The data, obtained from a study of cases recorded during the same period last year, aims to identify the main issues Spaniards encounter when traveling.
The cancellation or early interruption of a trip accounts for the highest percentage of travel issues at 41%. Most of these cancellations occur due to health problems affecting the traveler or their family members, accidents, or surgical procedures. Work-related matters, such as starting a new job, exam schedules, or visa denials, are other reasons why travelers are forced to cancel their Easter travel plans. In this regard, the trend of booking trips further and further in advance to take advantage of cost savings leads to less ability to foresee situations that prevent a trip from starting, which increases the number of cancellations.
The second most common type of recorded incident is due to luggage-related problems, which account for 23% of travel issues. Most of these incidents are related to delivery delays, damage, theft, or the permanent loss of luggage.
The third type of incident detected, at 21%, is due to problems related to the loss of booked services due to delays caused by overbooking or late departures of the chosen mode of transport.
Following these issues, InterMundial primarily handled cases related to medical or dental expenses (9%) and incidents with booked transport services (6%).
According to Manuel López, CEO of InterMundial, “it is vital for travelers to be aware that products exist to help protect them against the most common travel mishaps. Nowadays, purchasing travel insurance leads to significant savings for the user should these frequent setbacks occur.”
