Cancellation, health problems, and flight issues: the main incidents during language trips
According to the latest study by the InterMundial Business Analytics department, the main incidents are students' health problems at their destination (49%), flight-related setbacks (24%), and luggage issues (9%). The rest consist of trip interruptions and civil liability issues.
Language skills are an essential requirement for many jobs, which is why many young people learn languages in their native countries, whether through summer courses, Erasmus programs, or working as au pairs.
According to the latest study by InterMundial, English is the most studied language by Spaniards, and the favorite destinations to learn it are the UK and the US, although there is an increasing trend toward other English-speaking countries like Malta, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Students of French also travel to the French-speaking region of the latter, although France remains the preferred study destination. Meanwhile, the study of German has seen an increase in recent years.
InterMundial experts state that the main incidents during language trips abroad are trip cancellations (32%), students' health problems at their destination (28%), flight-related setbacks (24%), and luggage issues (9%), followed by trip interruptions due to the hospitalization of a student's family member.
Health problems and accidents
If the student is in the EU, they can use their health insurance card, although it is only valid in certain contracted centers and does not cover patient transport to the medical facility, ambulances, or repatriation costs. It is worth noting that the price of a test, such as a scan, in the UK is 159 euros, and hospital admission for appendicitis can cost 3,125 euros. In France, a test costs about 168 euros, a day in the hospital 782 euros, and hospitalization and medical care 4,090 euros, according to InterMundial.
Meanwhile, students studying in the US face high expenses in the event of illness or accident, as there is no free public healthcare in that country and costs are high. A routine consultation has a minimum cost of 62 euros, a test like a scan costs 540 euros, a day in the hospital costs 3,903 euros, and the total cost of hospitalization and medical care for an illness like appendicitis can exceed 13,000 euros.
